Our History

Southern Hills Baptist Church was an intentional church plant by First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove, Texas. The first service was held in January 1990. Land was initially given by the Lightfoot family. A volunteer team of Baptist men came from Mississippi to help with the initial building project. A second building phase was starting in 1996. Pastor Charlie Gibson was the first full-time pastor by the late 90’s. It was Pastor Charlie who began expository preaching at Southern Hills. In the early 2000’s the church became debt free and remains so to this day. Southern Hills has been a long time supporter of Voice of the Martyrs and the idea of funding indigenous pastors and mission efforts around the world. Recently, Southern Hills has adopted a biblical polity of plurality of elders. We strive to continue to conform to the norms of Scripture and be governed by the word of God.
